A Global Assessment of Skin Health as a Public Health Priority: International Results from the Skinobservatory Study

Abstract

Introduction: As skin ages, it sags and loses elasticity, altering facial and neck contours. Ultrasound procedures offer a popular solution for skin tightening and lifting. This study evaluates the tolerance and efficacy of a new flavo-proxylane serum when applied pre- and post-ultrasound. The goal is to improve general signs of skin aging and enhance the overall skin lifting outcomes achieved by the ultrasound procedure. Methods: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial involved 35 healthy subjects (f/m, 32-67 years, Fitzpatrick I-VI) with mild-to-moderate facial and neck aging signs. Participants received either a flavo-proxylane or a placebo serum, applied twice daily in a randomized split-face/split-neck manner for four weeks prior to a single ultrasound procedure. Topical treatments continued immediately post-ultrasound and for eight weeks following the procedure. Clinical assessments of tolerance and efficacy were conducted at Week-4 (baseline), Day 0 pre-ultrasound, and Week 8 post-ultrasound. Wilcoxon signed-rank test or repeated measures ANOVA were used for statistical analysis. Results: Flavo-proxylane significantly improved (p<0.05) facial skin laxity, sagging, lines, smoothness, pores, firmness, radiance, dewy skin, and overall appearance from baseline at Day 0 pre-ultrasound. These benefits amplified (p<0.05), with reduced marionette lines (p<0.05), by Week 8 post-ultrasound. Compared to placebo, flavo-proxylane showed statistically greater improvements (p<0.05) in facial skin laxity, pores, dewy skin, and overall appearance, alongside more responders for overall facial contour improvement at Week 8 post-ultrasound. Both flavo-proxylane and placebo were well tolerated. Conclusions: The flavo-proxylane serum is an effective topical for improving multiple signs of skin aging pre- and post-ultrasound.
