Infection in the Newborn Infant and Its Association with Prolonged Rupture of the Amniotic Membranes

Infections in newborn infants should be suspected and treatment started whenever birth is prolonged following rupture of the membranes. These studies show that risk increases as rupture time gets longer. Selected antibiotics at proper dosages are recommended as preventive measures.
