Abstract

A 79-year-old female presented to the clinic for evaluation of a stomach mass. She had CT imaging and upper endoscopy demonstrating a submucosal lesion within the gastric body; the biopsy returned significant for ''atypical cells.'' Intraoperatively, the anterior stomach appeared normal. The posterior wall was inspected after entry through the lesser sac. A serosal irregularity was identified along the posterior wall. Hot shears were used to excise the mass. The gastrotomy was repaired in two layers after distally placing the nasogastric tube. The patient tolerated the procedure well. The pathology returned as a benign gastric schwannoma.
