Description
This group of cancer patients, advocates and caregivers, which started in 2020 after merging with an existing Head and Neck Cancer PFAC, has offered important suggestions for a wide range of program and research initiatives that ensure that patients, caregivers and advocates are a vital part of Henry Ford Health’s cancer service line priorities. Their ideas have contributed greatly to large projects, including a $250,000 grant from the Patient Center Outcomes Research Institute to develop research questions related to cancer precision medicine, which is the hypothesis that cancer treatment could be markedly improved if cancer therapies were guided by a tumor’s genetic makeup. Patient Advisors also offered significant advice on early plans for the Cancer Institute’s new downtown campus building that opened in 2021, providing input on its design, staffing and programs. The Cancer PFAC continues to meet monthly to collaborate and innovate on cancer care at Henry Ford Health.
