Abstract
Clinical PET system's hardware and software have historically been tailored toward a single purpose: oncologic imaging of FDG. Currently, the imaging, nuclear medicine, and radiotherapy communities are experiencing a surge of interest in positron emitters and accompanying radiotracers. Simultaneously, detector and photo-sensor technology along with reconstruction algorithms have steadily improved. These advancements and the diversification of radiotracers and PET system specifications will require greater involvement by medical physicists to customize and optimize imaging parameters. Learning Objectives: 1. Identify and differentiate clinically-available PET detector hardware components 2. Identify and differentiate clinically-available PET data processing and reconstruction 3. Describe how radiotracers other than FDG influence hardware selection and/or imaging parameters.
